Gary Mansfield
Fine artist, curator and Ministry of Arts Podcast host, Gary Mansfield had a most unlikely induction into the world of art; while serving a prison sentence in his early twenties, after being inadvertently used as a drugs mule, he discovered a hidden creative energy. He was soon corresponding with the likes of Sarah Lucas, Gavin Turk, Gary Hume, Tracy Emin and Mark Wallinger. Under their guidance, Mansfield found a new direction in life and eventually completed a degree in Fine Art upon release.
Intimately tied to his early life experiences, Mansfield’s works have a deep-rooted foundation of Identity, time, empathy and social injustice, creating a powerful and politically charged aesthetic.
In recent years, Mansfield has collaborated with a number of the YBAs on various artworks and projects. He also works closely with prisoners & ex-offenders and curates large exhibitions, often raising funds for various charities and good-causes.
Gary Mansfield is a Director of Koestler Arts, Director of The Sixteen Trust, Director of VOMA (Virtual Online Museum of Art) and Ambassador for The Forward Trust.
