Maurice Gee

I was born in Doncaster, Yorkshire in 1956.  In 1973 I left to join the British Army, more specifically the Royal Army Dental Corps, in order to train as a Dental Technician.  I met & married my wife whilst in the army, and served until 1986 when I left to try my hand in Civie Street.  I spent 2 years in Civie-Street Hell. Hated most of it, and couldn’t settle. So, I applied for the Prison Service.

In 1988 the Prison Service had National Recruitment, and from my initial application, it was a long 6 months, waiting for everything to come together.

I was finally offered a place on the first ever Extra Training Course. Which was held  at Hull University.

My posting at the end of training was to HMP Blundeston (Cat B Training Prison), just outside Lowestoft in Suffolk.

In 1996 I transferred to HMP The Verne, Dorset (Cat C) and served the rest of my career there.  I undertook numerous roles in my service. One highpoint being a National Trainer for the new NOMIS system.

I was a Prison Officer for nigh on 33 years. Finally retiring on the 31st December 2020.
